Week/Semaine 36 – 06/09 Sharapova – Wozniacki

US Open:

Sharapova – Wozniacki : Sharapova @ 2 (Stanjames) [6u] 3-6 4-6

Today, I really see the Russian doll as a favourite. For a bit more than two months, she recovered a really good level. For example in Wimbledon she pushed Serena Williams to a really difficult match (7-6[9] 6-4) then in Stanford and in Cincinnati, she reached the final (losses against Azarenka and Clijsters) and this week, she made a pretty good start with victories over Groth, Benesova and Capra.

Wozniacki is the n°1 of the tournament and has now 11 wins in a row. This last month, she played over 20 matches which is really big and she can maybe suffer from that. Moreover, Sharapova is much more experienced and in a Grand Slam, that is really important. In H2Hs, Sharapova leads 4-0 (including 2 exhibition matches) and Wozniacki never took him a set.

Sharapova is a slight favourite here, the value is on her!

Week/Semaine 35 – 05/09 Nadal – Simon

US Open:

Nadal – Simon : Nadal 3-0 @ 1.79 (12bet) [5u] 6-4 6-4 6-2

Tonight, Simon will have to face the n°1, Rafael Nadal. Hard word for him as he is still trying to find his best level back after having had serious trouble with his knee in 2010. This summer, except a win against a disappointing Roddick, he didn’t make any particular performances. Losses against Nalbandian, Youzhny and Fish.

US Open is the last grand slam that Nadal doesn’t have and he seems to be closer than ever to win this tournament. So far he had two quite difficult matches with powerful opponents (Gabashvili and Istomin) but he won both in three sets. I think that Simon’s game suits well the Spanish and I really don’t see him lose a set against the Frenchman.

Moreover, Simon has just become father two days ago and her wife & son are in France so I think he just wants to go back in France and he won’t have his mind 100% focused on this match. The problem for him is that it’s not Kohlschreiber behind the net…

Week/Semaine 35 – 04/09 Clement – Fish

US Open:

Clement – Fish : Clement @ 6.66 (Pinnacle) [4u]

Week/Semaine 35 – 03/09 Razzano – Ivanovic

US Open:

Razzano – Ivanovic : Razzano @ 5.01 (Pinnacle) [4u] 5-7 0-6

After a pity year full of injuries with her right foot, Razzano is back in the US. She first went to the Challenger in Vancouver where she reached the final. Then she lost in a very tight match against Schnyder in Montréal. Here in New York, she did two really solid performances as she beat Zakopalova and Bartoli in two straight sets! Her level doesn’t seem to stop increasing!

Ivanovic is more consistant this summer but every time she had to play good players, she lost (Bartoli, Peer, Clijsters). In Cincinnati, she retired against Clijsters so we don’t really know how fit is her ankle.

2 H2Hs, 1-1 and both were really tight! Value on the French girl!

Week/Semaine 35 – 02/09 Radwanska A. – Peng

US Open:

Radwanska – Peng : Radwanska 2-1 @ 6.2 (Betfair) [4.5u] 6-2 1-6 4-6

This is right, Radwanska is far better than the Chinese player. Though, in their H2Hs, Radwanska really struggled to beat Peng. Let’s see…

Wimbledon 2009 : Radwanska – Peng : 6-2 6-7 9-7
Indian Wells 2008: Radwanska – Peng : 6-3 3-6 6-3

There is a possibility that the match looks like to the previous ones. So 2-1 for Radwanska @ 6.2 seems to be value!

Week/Semaine 35 – 02/09 Kuznetsova – Sevastova

US Open:

Kuznetsova – Sevastova : Kuznetsova 2-1 @ 5 (Betfair) [4.5u] 6-2 6-3

Some stats:
On her 20 last games, Kuznetsova had to go 13 times to a third set!
On those matches, she won 10/13!

On hard this year (without incomplete matches), Sevastova:
13/21, she had to go to a third set!

Then I assume that the experience will pay for Kuznetsova and will lead her to a 2 sets to 1 win!

Week/Semaine 35 – 02/09 Nishikori – Cilic

US Open:

Nishikori – Cilic : Nishikori @ 4.4 (Bwin) [6u] 5-7 7-6 3-6 7-6 6-1

Nishikori is a young japan and ambitious player. As he won a Challenger few weeks ago and get out of the quallies, he has 9 straight wins in a row and is full of confidence before playing Cilic. Nishikori performed really well last year in the US Open as he reached the 4th round after success over Monaco, Karanusic and Ferrer!

After a really good AO, Cilic has really a lot of difficulties to get to his best level. Before the first round against Marchenko he had 3 losses in a row against Nalbandian, Troicki and Baghdatis.

Cilic is a favourite here but Nishikori has all the abilities to get the Croatian player out of the tournament. Go Kei!

Week/Semaine 34 – 24/08 Istomin – Becker

ATP New Haven:

Istomin – Becker : Istomin @ 2 (Expekt) [7u] 6-3 6-1

Week/Semaine 33 – 22/08 Zvonareva – Azarenka

WTA Montréal:

Zvonareva – Azarenka : Zvonareva @ 2.84 (Pinnacle) [6u] 7-6 1-0 ret.

Week/Semaine 33 – 19/08 Hewitt – Söderling

ATP Cincinnati:

Hewitt- Söderling : Hewitt @ 3.26 (Pinnacle) [4u] 6-4 3-6 5-7

Hewitt leads 3-0 in the H2Hs (last h2h in Autumn 2009). Hewitt is more regular than Söderling but Söderling’s got more power and can score more free points with his fast serve and groundstrokes. I see the Swede as a slight favourite here but the Aussie never lost against Söderling and he is a good opponent!
